An all-year-round holiday paradise amidst the imposing Dolomite mountains
Spring, summer, autumn or winter: the Hubertusstube is the ideal starting point for your skiing, hiking or relaxation holiday in Laion
Spring
In the Valle Isarco/ Eisacktal, just as in our own village of Laion, we enjoy really pleasant temperatures even in early spring. Nature reawakens to new life, the first little flowers venture above ground, the cherry trees bear white and pink blossom and in the background the snow-capped Dolomites reach towards the skies.
This impressive spring awakening is best viewed on a stroll or hike through the lower mountain ranges, for instance from Lajen out into the different municipalities or to the splendid castles such as the Trostburg. The Hubertsstube’s central location at the entrance to Val Gardena/ Grödnertal make it possible to take any number of trips into the wonderful Dolomites of Val Gardena including the Sella mountain range, the Sassolungo massif or the peaks of the Odle group, but also excursions into the verdant Valle Isarco and Merano and environs.
You can also visit neighbouring towns of Chiusa/ Klausen, Bressanone/ Brixen, Bolzano/ Bozen or Merano/ Meran, where there are plenty of cultural and historical tourist attractions to explore. In addition, in spring there are free guided walks and a diverse array of equilibrium restoring spa packages.
Summer
In summer the region’s mild sunny climate makes it a paradise for cycling, hiking and climbing. Explore Laion or the neighbouring Val Gardena with the Alpe di Siusi alpine meadow, or discover the Val di Funes/ Villnösstal and Valle Isarco via their countless hiking and cycling trails.
The pale and stunningly beautiful South Tyrolean Dolomites, which rose up from the primordial ocean many millions of years ago, offer an extreme environment for alpine plants and animals and a unique recreational landscape for us humans. The mountain range of Rasciesa/ Raschötz and the Alpe di Siusi (Europe’s largest alpine plateau) can both be reached from Laion and offer wonderful walking and hiking trails for the whole family. Here you will find diverse flora and fauna in a bizarre limestone environment. Experience this fascinating natural spectacle by bike or from a tandem paragliding flight up in the lofty heights. The natural environment here presents you with countless opportunities to switch off from everyday life, giving you vivid and unforgettable memories in the unique mountain landscape of the Dolomites.
Of course we will provide you with hiking maps and tips free of charge here at the hotel and we have plenty of suggestions for your next excursion. In summer you might consider one of the free guided walks.

The Hubertusstube is located right on the Val Gardena main road and so is the ideal starting point for breath-taking motorbike tours throughout South Tyrol. Committed bikers just love this popular tourist region, taking particular delight in the Dolomites passes with their winding roads and unique mountain backdrops. The range of options is enormous – for instance you can drive round the Sella massif with stunning views of the Marmolada mountain, the jewel in the crown of the Dolomites.

Autumn
The autumn offers our guests mostly sunny and perfect days with clear blue skies and breathtakingly good visibility of the Dolomites and across the Valle Isarco. The blaze of colours is incredibly intense – golden yellow, orange and reddish shades as far as the eye can see. The temperatures at this time of year are still very pleasant and are ideal for going out walking in the morning and afternoon sunshine on the famous Poststeig which leads up to Ortisei/ St. Ulrich. There are plenty of benches where you can take a seat, pause for a while and let time stand still. Take pleasure in the glorious peace which prevails here. This is a truly special experience which will soothe both mind and body. Also popular with our guests are the Törgelle hikes. There are free guided walks in the autumn.
Törggelen – delicious treats you will just adore
According to the rules of an ancient tradition, the “Buschenschänke” with their popular “Törggelestuben” are opening in the last warm autumn days. Young wine, bacon, traditional hard loaves called “Schüttelbrot“, homemade sausages with “Kraut” (pickled cabbage), meat platter with ribs and “Surfleisch” (salt pork), barley soup, the traditional tris of dumplings and “Schlutzkrapfen”, sweet “Krapfen” and of course chestnuts are served.
There are numerous traditional South Tyrolean taverns in our vicinity all of which offer delicious treats to tempt you to linger a while.
Skiing
In winter we are surrounded by fascinating snowy landscapes and sparkling meadows, with the imposing peaks rising up in between. The surrounding Ladin Val Gardena is known for its ski slopes which are part of the “Dolomiti Superski” circuit, the largest ski resort in the Alps and just 15 minutes by car from the Hubertusstube hotel in Novale di Laion. The ski resort is easy to reach with the free ski bus departing hourly from right outside our door. It doesn’t matter whether you are an amateur or champion skier, there are 1200 km of pistes where you can properly let off steam. A particular favourite is the Sellaronda, the ski circuit which goes around the Sella massif.
Also within easy reach of our hotel by direct bus is the renowned World Cup downhill course at Saslong, situated at the foot of the mighty Sassolungo, where every year in December the FIS Ski World Cup takes place.
There are numerous charming ski lodges where you can spend a well-deserved rest in the sunshine or where you can see out a day’s skiing with some après ski entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere.
Christmas markets
In the peaceful period before Christmas there are plenty of atmospheric Christmas markets in nearby Val Gardena/ Gröden, Chiusa/ Klausen, Bressanone/ Brixen, Bolzano/ Bozen, Merano/ Meran and Vipiteno/ Sterzing, where you can take a stroll through the advent offerings.
Cross-country skiing
The cross-country courses in Ortsei are located on the nearby Alpe di Siusi (accessible from Ortisei by cable car). There you will find over 60 km of well-groomed cross-country trails and a magnificent view of the surrounding Dolomites!
The Monte Pana cross-country skiing centre, above S. Cristina (approx. 12 km from us), offers several cross-country courses as well as a winter hiking trail through the beautiful woods and meadows.
The Vallunga valley in Selva di Val Gardena also offers a wonderful backdrop for cross-country skiers. A total of 12 km of courses lead from the Carabinieri police sports centre to the end of the valley.
Tobogganing
If you fancy a break from skiing in winter and are looking for an entertaining and sociable leisure activity, then a tobogganing tour or a romantic sleigh ride is just the thing for you. This activity is particularly suitable for your family holiday with the children.
Toboggan runs:
-on the Alpe di Siusi (the largest high plateau in Europe)
-on the Rasciesa alpine pasture (at the new funicular railway there is a best prepared toboggan run of several kilometres)
-on the Alpe di Villandro in the Val di Funes valley
Hiking
On your winter walks or snowshoe hikes you have the opportunity to stroll across snow-covered meadows, along streams and past quaint farms, enjoying magnificent views of the snowy peaks and feeling the closeness to nature. In recent years, snowshoe hiking has become increasingly popular.
